Lost Items

Patrons are responsible for returning all checked-out materials in the same condition and in a timely manner. If an item is not returned in proper condition or in a timely manner, Plough Library may suspend the patron's borrowing privileges. For student borrowers, a library hold may also be placed on the patron’s account at the Registrar’s office, which could prevent future registration as well as receipt of diploma and/or transcript.

Most circulating Items are designated “lost” 61 days after their due date. Items on Course Reserve are designated "lost" 1 day after the item is due. When this happens, a lost item fee of $50 and a lost item processing fee of $15 are charged to the patron's account for each item. If the item is returned in good condition, these fees will be removed.

On rare occasions the patron may provide a replacement copy of the item at the discretion of the Acquisitions/Public Services Librarian or the Library Director. Preapproval for replacement is required.

This lost item policy pertains to everyone who borrows from Plough library, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, courtesy borrowers, and consortium members.

Lost Item Refund Policy

If a patron returns an item that had been both declared lost and paid for, the library will refund the lost item fee. The lost item processing fee is non-refundable. The patron must have both item and receipt showing the lost item had been paid for. The receipt is required for a refund.
