Library Surveys

New carpet and flooring had been installed on the Main floor of Plough Library during Summer 2019, and new furniture expected during the Fall Term 2019. A combined Reference/Circulation desk was installed during Fall break, while the rest of the furniture was brought in over Winter break. Furniture included new tables of varying sizes with task chairs, a variety of individual upholstered seating, 2 couches, 3 booths, 2 media stations (these remained unfinished until after the survey), and 2 large whiteboards.

During the first two weeks of February 2020, the Library distributed paper surveys to students using the Library about the new furniture. There were no online surveys in order to ensure that responses came from students who actually used the library. Six questions were asked:

1. When you come to Plough Library to study, which floor do you prefer?
2. Why do you prefer the floor that you use for studying?
3. Which of the new furnishings on the Main Level have you used?
4. Which of the new furnishings are your favorite? Why?
5. Which of the new furnishings do you dislike? Why?
6. Keeping in mind that more improvements/additions will be coming to Plough Library,what kind of furnishings do you want to see more of throughout the Library? 

298 surveys were distributed; 118 were answered—a 39.6% response.
