What Is Information Literacy?

The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) defines information literacy as "[t]he set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information." It includes the abilities to formulate guiding questions, develop search strategies to find relevant and accurate information, access the information, use it effectively, and much more. More broadly, information literacy requires understanding the ethical and legal questions pertaining to information creation and use.
