COVID-19: Library Support
CBU library resources and services during the COVID-19 outbreak
Chat: Look for the Ask a Librarian box and chat with one of our library staff.
The chat schedule may vary, but typical semester hours are:
Monday - Thursday, 9am - 9pm
Friday, 9am - 4:30pm
Research Consultations: Students and Faculty may request a WebEx research consultation with a librarian.
Library Use Policy Changes
The library remains a space for quiet study and research. See the Library Hours page for our detailed schedule.
At this time, Plough Library is only open to current CBU students, faculty, and staff.
In accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines:
Facial Coverings (Masks) are Required for all library users within all physical spaces in the library.
No Food is allowed in the library. Covered drink bottles and containers are allowed.
Seating capacity is reduced to facilitate social distancing. This includes study tables, carrels, booths, computer stations, etc.
No group study or gatherings are allowed in the library.
The top floor of the library is closed. Library staff will retrieve books from the top floor on request.
The two group study rooms on the main floor are closed.
Book Checkout and Return
We encourage all users to place holds for books and other items in advance. See below for instructions.
All books should be returned to the Book Drop located on the library's front porch.
Returned books will be quarantined for several days before they may be checked out again.
There are NO FINES OR FEES for overdue items. (Lost/replacement costs still apply.)
Checking Out Material from Plough Library
Library Holds and Book Checkout
Request items from Plough Library’s collection, and library staff will retrieve them for you.
Place a Hold:
Use the "Search for books, articles, videos, and more..." box found on the center of the Library's homepage at www.cbu.edu/library.
Type in search terms -- the title of a book, the name of an author, keywords, etc.
When you find an item you want, click on its title to open the full record.
Midway down, you'll see a Place Hold button. Click it.
If you are not already logged into your Library account, you'll be prompted to log in at this time. Use your CBU username and password.
Review your request, and click Submit.
Pick Up Holds:
Staff will check for requests and pull material twice a day. Pulled item(s) will be checked out to you and bagged (with the pull date noted so you can quarantine it if you choose). You will receive email notification when your holds are ready for pickup.
Show your CBU ID to pick up holds.
Books will be held for 5 business days. If you do not pick up your material within that time, it will checked back in and returned to the shelf.
